He accused reporters -- such as CNN's Anderson Cooper -- of "news-guy snobbery" and attacked them for covering the Iraq war. He said, “Oh, there’s a war on, there’s a war on. Maybe, just maybe, people are a little weary, Mr. Cooper, of your war coverage..." JCSaint by JCSaint on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 350 diggs bury this digg this Okay, at first I felt bad for her. Now, I don't think she'd dead enough. Why the hell should I care where she's going to be buried or who gets custody of her child? I don't even like the fact that I know there's a dispute over those issues. You want to do 5 minutes a day on her? Fine, be my guest, lump it in with Spears shaving her head and who won at the Oscars. But why is it that every goddamn time I turn on the news, I see her!!!! Sorry, had to vent for a bit. 1. checkmarshall by checkmarshall on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 166 diggs bury this digg this A 15 min segment about her life would have sufficed.... With other IMPORTANT things going in the world, who gives a shit if some whore, who wears clown makeup died? She didn't do anything great for this world, and I could care less where she gets buried. How about the media starts covering more important news, instead of this shit that no one cares about. It was fine to cover it for one day, but enough is enough. Wars are going on, people are dying, and the situation in the world is important than this fat ragdoll. 3. raynar by raynar on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 73 diggs bury this digg this But...isn't "who's my baby's daddy?" more important than Iraq? Its not her fault that the media is covering it like this, and quite frankly, what good did *you* ever do for this world except rant online like a potty-mouthed twelve year old about a person that, while dead, you have never met? 10. dankbudz by dankbudz on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 56 diggs bury this digg this Every time i turn on the news... Yes I know there is a war going on. Im constantly bombarded by it in the news and have pro- and anti-war propaganda shoved in my face. It seems like people won't be happy until they see death and destruction in Iraq. I can say that I know just about every bad thing that is happening in Iraq and don't ask me about the good things, because appearantly good things don't happen in Iraq..either that or the news companies just package what sells. It doesn't just apply to celebrities you know 16. logotype702 by logotype702 on 2/26/07[below viewing threshold, show commenthide comment] - 11 diggs bury this digg this I would not insult her, not because of her, but for respect for her son. And because people are titillated by celebrity scandal doesn’t mean they are ignoring the more important news, though I’m sure many are. It’s like a gory traffic accident on the other side of the expressway: People slow to look, they can’t help it. But then they get past it, and on with the meat and potatoes of their journey. Of course there are always curmudgeons who blare their horns and flip their fingers at everyone else before getting a good look themselves. 1. arcanaut by arcanaut on 2/26/07[below viewing threshold, show commenthide comment] - 25 diggs bury this digg this I am a fan of Fox, but have had to turn it off with the All Anna, All The Time policy they've instituted since her death. I'm not sure Fox is giving the people what they want, as I keep turning it off, and I mostly hear people complain about the Anna/Britney coverage of late. Sadly, trying CNN or MSNBC isn't much help, as they are also All Anna, All The Time. It's a sad day when I get more actual news from Jon Stewart on the Daily Show than Fox, CNN, or the Big Three networks. 2. MSF2 by MSF2 on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 100 diggs bury this digg this "isn’t it just a little condescending to chastise them for giving people what they want?" No, a movie should give the people what they want to see; a news station should give the people what they need to see. Unfortunately Fox only gives the people what Fox wants them to see 3. footballdude191 by footballdude191 on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 24 diggs bury this digg this Giving people what they want to see only succeeds in creating an ignorant society. Any surprise that Fox news and most of the US are a perfect example of this? 4. tkstock by tkstock on 2/26/07[below viewing threshold, show commenthide comment] - 33 diggs bury this digg this @MSF2 Isn't CNN only giving it's viewers what it wants them to see? Being a bit hypocritical, aren't we? If Fox can't give their viewers what Fox wants to, and they can't give the viewers what the viewers want, then what the hell do you want them to give to the viewers? Think about your argument before you state it. 5. Digg me down even though I make a valid observation - even though I agree with the gist of the article! I simply pointed out the MSF2 didn't think Fox should give the viewers what the viewers want, and then in the same arguement he complained that Fox gives the viewers what Fox wants, so where does that leave Fox? What should they give the viewers - what CNN wants? 7. fotd42 by fotd42 on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 38 diggs bury this digg this fox news is entertainment, not a legitimate source of information. 8. drathosx3 by drathosx3 on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 24 diggs bury this digg this "I am a fan of Fox" I am currently Instant Messaging some friends to join digg, and digg you down. 9. dtrinh by dtrinh on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 34 diggs bury this digg this @tkstock there's no such thing as an "anti-Foxer", its just a person with common sense 10. tkstock by tkstock on 2/26/07[below viewing threshold, show commenthide comment] - 12 diggs bury this digg this @drathosx3 That is about the lamest high-school thing ever. The entire media has destroyed the business of delivering News to those who choose not to be ignorant. I had always believed the News to be in existence to inform viewers, not entertain. It seems Fox only knows how to bash and lie about Sen. Obama or provide thorough coverage of a dead porn star's life after death. 3. h4rdcor3 by h4rdcor3 on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 32 diggs bury this digg this What makes her so special? sure she had fake boobs that a lot of guys like to jack off to but hell, i'd bet the girl sitting next to me has fake boobs too. i just hate how these people get special attention by the american public. there are more important things in this world than who OD'd on coke, who banged who, and who is cheating on who. I seriously have to ask myself what is worse? A network (like fox) has such an agenda as to purposefully ignore news contrary to its (political) motives? Or that these people who RUN the 24 hour news networks truly beleive that Anna Nicole deserves such a hilariously overstated amount of coverage? Either way, it looks bleak.. -Maas 4. I bet they are. Perhaps that is the real problem. Still, what do we see that disproves this? If people truly want to hear about Anna Nicole Smith (a person who was famous mostly for being famous), then what evidence can be more damning? We're in a society that can't wrap its head around the real issues in life. People stress out about stress. Others spend so much time trying to get away from life that they lose all connections with what is real. Of course, in another sense, we've progressed as a society. We've reached a point where there are popular figures out there who can legitimately express views such as this in the public discourse. In many countries, this kind of speech is unheard of. People don't have enough choices in news sources to get these kinds of opinions. Sure, I think this guy's full of crap, and many others of you seem to agree. Sheep your all sheep. http://digg.com/celebrity/Who_Cares_That_Anna_Is_Dead_No_One_maybe 101. excalpius by excalpius on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 1 digg bury this digg this b-b-but she had BIG tits!!! 102. PATSCRU by PATSCRU on 2/26/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 0 diggs bury this digg this if reporters who are covering the war are snobs, what kind of people are the soldiers fighting in that war? I'd like to know Gibson's answer to that. If "people are a little weary" of Iraq, I wonder how our servicemen feel having to actually BE THERE.... 103. Don't know how he can be a snob. 105. bshock by bshock on 2/27/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 2 diggs bury this digg this Paying attention to hundreds of thousands of people dying, as opposed to one semi-celebrity's death over a week ago? Yeah. Right. That's snobby. This John Gibson should be dropped in the middle of Baghdad without a flak jacket. 1. rabiddogma by rabiddogma on 2/27/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 1 digg bury this digg this Why isn't he there yet? 106. banderwocky by banderwocky on 2/27/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 0 diggs bury this digg this if afgan and iraq had boobies, maybe they would get more coverage. 107. Smaug52X by Smaug52X on 2/27/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 0 diggs bury this digg this "Journo-crats" arre increasingly spinning and warping what is qualified as "news". We get our opinions based on mindless drivel that is only smoke and mirrors. They are more concerned with their "celebrity" and "don't I say the darndest things?" Who would listen to Jon Stewart if he used his real name? What about "Jeraldo Rivera"? Gerry Rivers ! Insipid, vaccuous bobble heads! They would just as soon report their own sorry lives as news. The worlds, {not mine!} infatuation with "stardom" and "Idols" is ridiculous! Vapid sit-coms that portray "real life" is bullshit! Nobody cares about the soldiers feelings about being mis-led, mis- equipted, and mis-guided. The plight of the poor emigre' that has to run a corner market, that is given to them free, and have to keep prices at a decent level. The ,,, ah fuck it! 108. LJRod82 by LJRod82 on 2/27/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 0 diggs bury this digg this I still don't get all this necro-coverage of Anna Nicole Smith. Last I heard she was still human and as much as I want to point out that the only difference between her and most people was the lack of a fully functional brain, she still put her pants on one leg at a time... when she wore pants anyway. Aside from that, focusing on someone most especially a dead someone is nothing more than an obsession. Albeit, a very sick and weird obsession. This includes all major news corporations that have put this woman on their priority story list. As far as I'm concerned, the excessive Smith coverage is little different from news necrophelia. She's dead and the news is trying to whore what they can out of her. Seriously, John Gibson just needs to get it out of his system and do her corpse. 109. drdank by drdank on 2/27/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 1 digg bury this digg this When non-stories like this and "OMG Britney Speers cutz off her hair!" dominate news coverage, your BS-detector has to go into full swing to find the story that is being purposefully distracted from by this nonsense. 110. marty0577 by marty0577 on 2/27/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 1 digg bury this digg this No one cares about anna nicole smith dying. Sheesh... 113. Taisto by Taisto on 2/27/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 0 diggs bury this digg this Ahh, I'm so glad my dad didn't buy cable TV when I was younger (No matter how much I begged). It's but impotensy cures and "Nautral Male Enhancement" ads interrupted by entertainment news. What garbage! This Anna Smith thing doesn't even come up on "The News Hour", but they cover Iraq and Sudan nearly everyday. Does this make me a snob for watching it? 114. Flamingmoth by Flamingmoth on 3/01/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 0 diggs bury this digg this What could be less interesting than a drug-addled, half-wit using drugs throughout her pregnancy and producing an infant clearly not firing on all cylinders? Watching mould grow is more compelling. 1. faskippy by faskippy on 3/02/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 0 diggs bury this digg this I agree she was a half-wit, and I don't want to devote any more attention to her. But, I get so damn tired of reading these posts where I have to see just how "educated" our "educated" young people are these days. You don't "loose" control, you "lose" it, "mould" doesn't grow, "mold" does, and please, learn where commas and periods go, please! Sorry to rant, just see it too much, I guess. 115. Flamingmoth by Flamingmoth on 3/13/07[comment buried, show commenthide comment] + 0 diggs bury this digg this Actually faskippy -- mold is to shape and mould is to grow, or mold is to grow and mould is to shape. The spelling is acceptable either way unless you're American. As for "young people" -- I was born immediately following the second world war. I do appreciate the reminder I was once young, and am now a crone. Add a Comment ------------- Join digg for free to comment on this story. Have an account already? Login to comment.
